Assam Police Arrest Six for Pro-Pakistan Posts After Pahalgam Terror Attack

Statewide crackdown targets individuals promoting anti-India narratives on social media.

GUWAHATI | April 25, 2025 — In a decisive move to uphold national security and public sentiment, Assam Police have arrested six individuals from various districts for allegedly sharing or endorsing pro-Pakistan content on social media following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.

The crackdown is part of a wider state-level operation targeting those suspected of promoting or sympathizing with anti-India narratives in the aftermath of the attack. Officials say the online posts were not only inflammatory but also potentially damaging to communal harmony.

The arrested individuals include:

  • Md. Jabir Hussain from Hailakandi
  • Md. A.K. Bahauddin and Md. Javed Mazumder from Silchar
  • Md. Mahahar Mia alias Md. Mujihirul Islam from Morigaon
  • Md. Aminul Islam from Nagaon
  • Md. Sahil Ali from Sivasagar

According to Assam Police, these individuals were actively engaged in posting or sharing content perceived as sympathetic to Pakistan or critical of India in the context of the Pahalgam attack, which claimed multiple lives and drew widespread condemnation.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma responded firmly, stating, “Assam will not tolerate any person who, directly or indirectly, supports or defends Pakistan—especially in times of national tragedy.” He added that such actions would be dealt with strictly, and law enforcement agencies are monitoring online platforms closely.

Authorities have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and more arrests are expected in the coming days as digital evidence is reviewed.

This development follows the arrest of AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam, who is also under scrutiny for controversial remarks related to the attack.
