Police Personnel Caught Taking ₹21,000 Bribe in Lakhimpur
Lakhimpur, Assam: In a major crackdown on corruption within the police force, three personnel from Panigaon Police Station in Assam’s Lakhimpur district have been arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe. The arrested officials have been identified as Constable Hiranya Kumar Patgiri and Home Guards Dilip Kalita and Dipak Mili.
Police Personnel Accused of Extortion
According to reports, the trio allegedly extorted ₹21,000 from an individual named Rajkumar Doley, accusing him of being involved in cattle smuggling. Following the revelations, authorities took swift action against the accused personnel.
Senior Officers Face Suspension
In response to the incident, the then Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Panigaon Police Station, Satyajit Borah, has been suspended. Additionally, Sub-Inspector Khiroda Saikia has also been suspended due to alleged involvement in the case.

The arrests and suspensions highlight the Assam government’s commitment to eliminating corruption from the police department. Authorities have reiterated their stance on maintaining law and order while ensuring accountability within the force.
