Suspected Rebel Group Allegedly Forces Market Leader’s Resignation Through Abduction in Arunachal Pradesh

Khonsa Tense as Armed Group Allegedly Targets Local Market Association President

Tirap, Arunachal Pradesh: A suspected armed rebel group has allegedly coerced the president of a local market association in Tirap district to resign by abducting his brother, creating a tense atmosphere in the region.

The incident occurred late Wednesday night in Khonsa town, where Panlam Wangpan, the brother of Achan Wangsu, president of the Khonsa Bazaar Welfare Committee (KBWC), was forcibly taken hostage. Reports suggest that the armed group originally intended to abduct Wangsu himself.

According to sources, around 10:30 PM, a group of unidentified armed men raided Wangpan’s residence in R.K.S.M Colony, aiming to capture Achan Wangsu. However, Wangsu managed to escape through the back door, prompting the assailants to take his brother, Panlam Wangpan, instead.

The abductors allegedly issued an ultimatum, demanding that Wangsu step down from his position as KBWC president by 4 PM on Thursday, warning of severe consequences if their demand was not met. Under immense pressure and concerned for his brother’s safety, Wangsu submitted his resignation to the KBWC general secretary. Following his resignation, his brother was released unharmed the next day.

As of now, authorities have not released an official statement regarding the incident, and there is no confirmation of an active investigation. The incident has raised concerns about security and law enforcement in the region, highlighting the ongoing challenges posed by suspected militant activities.
