Manipur Police Arrest Two PLA Militants for Extortion in Imphal East


Imphal, March 6 – In a significant operation, the Manipur Police arrested two militants belonging to the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA) in connection with an extortion racket in the Imphal East district. The arrests took place in the Yourabung area on Wednesday following a targeted operation.

Identities of the Accused

The two arrested militants have been identified as:

  • Ngairangbam Ajit Singh (59)
  • Laishram Bijoy Singh (56)

Extortion Network Uncovered

According to a senior police officer, the duo was involved in demanding money from individuals, private firms, government officials, and business establishments in various locations, including Mantripukhri and other parts of Imphal.

Seized Items & Ongoing Investigation

During the arrest, police recovered a mobile phone suspected to have been used for extortion-related activities. Authorities are further investigating their links with other militant operatives and the extent of their illegal activities.

Strengthened Vigilance Against Militancy
