Major Drug Bust at Guwahati Railway Station: 35.1 Kg of Cannabis Seized, Two Arrested


In a significant operation, the Government Railway Police (GRP) at Guwahati Railway Station seized 35.1 kg of suspected cannabis (ganja) and arrested two individuals in connection with the smuggling attempt. The seizure took place on March 4, 2025, at around 9:40 PM, during a routine inspection of Train No. 15909 DN Avadh Assam Express, which was en route from Dimapur to New Delhi.

How the Seizure Unfolded

  • The GRP personnel, conducting random baggage checks, found 34 packets of cannabis concealed inside three trolley bags in Coach No. H1 of the train.
  • The narcotics were recovered from two passengers, who were immediately taken into custody.

Who Are the Arrested Suspects?

The two individuals apprehended have been identified as:

  1. Kheboto V Muru (24 years) – Son of Viyito Muru, a resident of Ghokhuvi Village, Zunheboto District, Nagaland.
  2. N. Hotolu Achumi (47 years) – Son of Nihekhu Achumi, a resident of Thahekhu Village, Dimapur District, Nagaland.

  • The accused have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
  • Authorities are investigating the source and intended destination of the illegal consignment.
