Shops in Guwahati, Dibrugarh & Silchar Can Now Operate 24 Hours
In a significant step to enhance local businesses and employment opportunities, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that shops in Guwahati, Dibrugarh, and Silchar can now remain open 24 hours a day.
Flexible Operating Hours for Businesses
Speaking to the media, CM Sarma emphasized that shop owners will have the freedom to decide their weekly closure days, as the government will not impose any mandatory holiday restrictions.
For towns outside the municipal corporation limits of Guwahati, Dibrugarh, and Silchar, business hours have been extended until 2 AM. Meanwhile, in rural areas, shops can now operate until 11 PM.
Focus on Economic Growth and Employment
This initiative aims to empower small businesses, encourage entrepreneurship, and strengthen the local economy. The extended operating hours are expected to boost commercial activities while creating more job opportunities.
Worker Welfare Measures Implemented
To ensure employee welfare, the government has introduced strict labor regulations. Workers cannot be required to work beyond 48 hours per week, and no shift can exceed nine hours. Shops opting for round-the-clock operations must function in three shifts to prevent worker exploitation while increasing employment prospects.
Government's Vision for Assam’s Economy
CM Sarma highlighted that this decision would not only benefit business owners but also significantly contribute to job creation across the state. "This policy change will pave the way for economic expansion and provide new employment opportunities for the people of Assam," he stated.
With this new policy, Assam is set to witness a more dynamic and thriving business environment, supporting both entrepreneurs and the workforce.
