Assam Becomes First State in India to Implement Geo-Tagging of PMAY Houses

Jeevika Sakhis and SHG Members to Assist in Geo-Tagging of PMAY Houses

In a groundbreaking initiative, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced the introduction of geo-tagging for houses built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). For the first time in India, this process will be carried out by Jeevika Sakhis with the assistance of Self-Help Group (SHG) members.

Innovative Geo-Tagging System

The initiative aims to bring transparency and efficiency to the PMAY scheme by ensuring that houses are accurately geo-tagged. Additionally, a self-geo-tagging system will be introduced, allowing beneficiaries to geo-tag their own houses.

Approval and Implementation

  • The Panchayat & Rural Development Department will oversee the verification and approval process.
  • Jeevika Sakhis and SHG members will assist in ensuring accurate geo-tagging.
  • The new system will eliminate delays and improve monitoring of PMAY housing projects.

Boost to Rural Development

This initiative is expected to streamline housing verification, prevent misuse of funds, and ensure faster completion of houses under PMAY. By involving local women-led groups, the government is also promoting rural employment and women’s empowerment.

With this move, Assam sets a new benchmark in digital governance, reinforcing its commitment to transparency and efficiency in rural housing development.
