Strengthening Law Enforcement and Judiciary in Assam
In a historic move, the Assam government has appointed the first-ever Director for the newly created Directorate of Prosecution. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made the announcement through his social media handle, highlighting the state's commitment to establishing an impartial and efficient justice delivery mechanism.
A Landmark Step for Assam's Judicial System
Assam has emerged as one of the first states in India to set up a dedicated prosecution cadre aimed at assisting law enforcement and the judiciary. The move is expected to strengthen the legal infrastructure and streamline the justice delivery process.
The newly appointed Director of Prosecution, Shri Makhan Phukan, has been temporarily appointed for a period of four months. He will receive a pay scale ranging from ₹1,99,100 to ₹2,24,100, along with other allowances as per the Assam Directorate of Prosecution Establishment Officers’ Service Orders, 2022 (as amended).
Deputy Directors Also Appointed
Alongside the Director, the Assam government has appointed three Deputy Directors of Prosecution for the same duration of four months. The appointed officials are:
- Shri Dhanesh Das
- Shri Santanu Bhattacharyya
- Shri Manash Haloi
