The Assam Police have launched an investigation into alleged unlawful activities linked to Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi’s wife, Elizabeth Gogoi, and Pakistani national Ali Tauqeer Sheikh.

Case Linked to Alleged Foreign Interference
The Assam Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has named Pakistani national Ali Tauqeer Sheikh as a key figure in the case. Sheikh, known for his extensive network within Pakistani government and diplomatic circles, is under scrutiny for his reported ties to Elizabeth Gogoi.
According to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Elizabeth Gogoi, a British national, was associated with 'Lead Pakistan' during her stay in Islamabad. She allegedly maintained contact with Sheikh through climate change organizations operating in both India and Pakistan. Authorities suspect that these connections may have implications for India's internal security.
State Cabinet’s Directive on the Probe
The Assam government has taken the case seriously, with the State Cabinet approving a full-fledged investigation amid rising concerns over foreign influence in India's domestic affairs. The SIT is expected to gather intelligence, scrutinize financial transactions, and uncover any potential national security threats.
As the investigation unfolds, Assam Police have assured that necessary legal actions will be taken to uphold the integrity and security of the nation.
