Manipur CM Warns Indigenous Communities to Stay Vigilant Against Illegal Immigration

Imphal, January 22, 2025:
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has urged the state’s indigenous communities to remain vigilant against illegal immigration, highlighting the potential threats posed to the region’s cultural and demographic integrity. Addressing a gathering in Tamenglong district, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of safeguarding the state’s interests amid rising concerns over unchecked migration.

Singh expressed solidarity with all communities in Manipur, assuring that his government is committed to their welfare without discrimination. Drawing parallels with the challenges faced by neighboring states like Assam and Tripura, he stressed the urgency of addressing illegal immigration, particularly in light of issues surrounding Rohingya migration.

"The absence of proper border fencing and inadequate surveillance makes us vulnerable to illegal infiltration. If we don’t act responsibly, the indigenous population may face serious challenges. We must prioritize protecting our identity and resources," Singh said.

The Chief Minister also reflected on the growing mistrust among communities in the state, stating that mutual respect and equitable development are essential for harmony.

"Every facility enjoyed by people in the valley must be extended to those in the hills. Equal opportunities and respect will pave the way for a stronger Manipur and a united India," he remarked.

Singh acknowledged the challenges faced by the BJP-led government, noting that two years were lost to the COVID-19 pandemic and another two to the ongoing conflicts in the state. Despite these setbacks, he reiterated his commitment to fostering development and unity across Manipur.

The Chief Minister’s comments come as Manipur continues to navigate complex socio-political issues, with the government striving to balance development, security, and community cohesion.
