Assam Police STF Arrests Suspected Jihadi in Dhubri District

Guwahati, Assam — The Special Task Force (STF) of the Assam Police has apprehended a suspected Jihadi, identified as Jaher Ali, in the Bilasipara area of Dhubri district. The arrest marks another significant step in the state's efforts to combat extremist activities.

According to official reports, Ali is being transported to Guwahati for further interrogation. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation into the case, with more information expected to emerge in the coming days.

Government’s Vigilance Against Extremism

The arrest comes in the wake of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s recent statements about the state’s intensified efforts to counter Jihadi threats along border areas. During a New Year’s press conference, the Chief Minister highlighted the successful operations conducted in collaboration with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Intelligence Bureau (IB).

“We have arrested 23 individuals and seized various weapons,” the Chief Minister stated, emphasizing the government’s proactive measures against extremist elements.

Nationwide Coordination

Highlighting the broader scope of anti-extremism efforts, the Chief Minister mentioned, “Our operations are coordinated with the NIA and IB. We have even apprehended suspects from states like West Bengal and Kerala.”

Increased Surveillance Along Border Areas

Assam’s proximity to international borders has made it a key area of focus for security agencies. The state government has enhanced surveillance and operational strategies to curb the movement of extremist groups and their activities.

The latest arrest underscores Assam Police’s commitment to maintaining security and neutralizing potential threats. It also reflects the ongoing vigilance of law enforcement agencies in collaboration with national intelligence bodies.

The arrest of Jaher Ali is another reminder of the persistent threat posed by extremist elements. As the investigation unfolds, authorities are expected to uncover further details about his alleged activities and network. The Assam government’s coordinated approach with central agencies continues to play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of the region.
