Manipur Police Arrest Key KCP (PWG) Cadres, Recover Arms Cache in Major Crackdown
 Swift operation follows the killing of two non-locals in Keirak; significant weapons cache recovered.
In a significant breakthrough following the tragic killing of two non-local residents in Keirak on December 14, 2024, Manipur Police conducted large-scale operations targeting suspected militant hideouts. The swift action came after intelligence inputs indicated the involvement of armed groups in the heinous act.  

On December 16, police apprehended Irengbam Rameshwar Singh (48), an active cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Progressive War Group) [KCP (PWG)], from Kakching Lamkhai in Kakching district under the jurisdiction of Kakching Police Station.  

The arrest proved pivotal, as further interrogation led the police to a hidden camp in the Kakching Mamang Ching Laipham Loknung area. Seven additional members of the KCP (PWG) were arrested during the operation. The individuals were identified as:  

1. Elangbam Herojit Singh (40)  
2. Heikrujam Prem (28)  
3. Okram Arundatta (30)  
4. Senjam Rebingson (27)  
5. Okram Amarjit (31)  
6. Aribam Ghanendrajit Sharma (25)  
7. Chongtham Rajkumar  (26)  

Recovery of Arms and Ammunition  
A significant cache of arms, ammunition, and equipment was seized during the raid, indicating the group’s preparedness for further militant activities. The recovered items included:  

1 (one) 7.65 mm Pistol with a magazine  
1 (one) Country-made 9 mm Pistol with a magazine  
1 (one) .32 Pistol with a magazine  
1 (one) Country-made 7.62 Sniper Rifle with a magazine  
2 (two) DBBL (Double-Barrel Breech Loading) Guns  
2 (two) SBBL (Single-Barrel Breech Loading) Guns  
3 (three) High Explosive Grenades with one detonator  
19 (nineteen) live rounds of ammunition  
2 (two) empty cartridges  
2 (two) Baofeng handsets with chargers  
10 (ten) mobile handsets  
1 (one) unregistered two-wheeler vehicle  
Miscellaneous items  

Police Vow Stringent Action  
The Manipur Police have reiterated their commitment to combating militancy and maintaining law and order. Officials stated that stringent measures will be implemented against those involved in such violent crimes. The operation marks a critical step toward restoring peace and ensuring justice for the victims of the Keirak killings.  

The latest crackdown underscores the importance of intelligence-driven operations in tackling insurgency and preventing further violence in the region. The arrested individuals are currently in custody, and further investigations are underway.
