Customs Department Seizes Tiger Skin in Nagaon, Two Smugglers Arrested

In a significant breakthrough against illegal wildlife trafficking, the Customs Department successfully seized a tiger skin and apprehended two individuals involved in smuggling operations in the Nilbagan area of Nagaon district on Tuesday, December 10.

Acting on credible intelligence, the authorities intercepted the suspects, who were reportedly attempting to transport the tiger skin to Myanmar for illicit trade. Officials confirmed that the tiger had been killed over a year ago, and the smugglers had planned to sell the skin on the black market, where such items fetch exorbitant prices.

This operation highlights the ongoing challenge posed by illegal wildlife trade in the region, threatening endangered species and undermining conservation efforts. The seizure also underscores the critical role of intelligence and swift action in curbing such activities.

The Customs Department has urged citizens to actively report any instances of poaching or illegal wildlife trade. Officials emphasized that safeguarding endangered species requires collective responsibility and stronger community participation.

Such incidents are a stark reminder of the urgent need to combat wildlife crime and preserve the region's rich biodiversity. The authorities remain vigilant and committed to cracking down on these unlawful activities to protect India’s precious wildlife heritage.
