Assam Police Busts Jihadi Sleeper Cells in ‘Operation Praghat’
Assam Police Arrests Jihadi Operatives in 'Operation Praghat': DGP Harmeet Singh Speaks.
Guwahati 19 December 2024: Assam Special DGP Harmeet Singh has revealed key details about Operation Praghat, a major crackdown on jihadi elements in the state. Speaking to the media, Singh explained that the operation began around two weeks ago after intelligence inputs suggested the presence of sleeper cells aiming to disrupt peace in the region.

The DGP said the intelligence reports were thoroughly analyzed, and teams were sent to different locations to identify and arrest individuals involved in these activities. He emphasized that the handlers of these operatives were directing the plan from across the border. The goal of these sleeper cells, he stated, was to create disturbances through violent activities, including planned assassinations, to destabilize the region and disrupt the country’s social harmony.

So far, the operation has uncovered links extending to West Bengal and Kerala. Notably, an individual named Sad Radi was apprehended in Kerala, indicating efforts to set up sleeper cells in that state as well. Singh expressed gratitude to the West Bengal and Kerala police forces, as well as central agencies, for their support in the operation.

“Together, as a nation, we will not allow such elements to harm or destabilize our country,” Singh concluded, reaffirming the police’s commitment to ensuring peace and security.

Further investigations are ongoing to uncover more details about the network and its activities.
