Guwahati, Assam, November 8, 2024 – The East Zone Pre-Republic Day Parade Camp 2024, organized by the National Service Scheme (NSS) Regional Directorate of Guwahati and the NSS Cell of Gauhati University, is set to be inaugurated today. The ten-day event, held from November 7 to 16, aims to bring together students from across the region to promote youth leadership, discipline, and patriotism, with a special focus on skills relevant to the National Service Scheme’s mission.
The inaugural ceremony will take place at 11:00 AM at the Phanidhar Datta Hall in Gauhati University, under the esteemed presence of Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta, Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University, who will preside over the event. Lt. Gen. Rana Pratap Kalita (Retd.), a decorated officer with honors such as PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, and VMS, will officially inaugurate the camp. Adding to the significance of the event, Shri Kausar J. Hilaly, IAS Secretary of the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare, Government of Assam, will grace the ceremony as Guest of Honor.
The event is expected to foster a spirit of service and unity among youth. Dr. Ranjan Kumar Kakati, Director of Students Welfare and NSS Programme Coordinator at Gauhati University, highlighted the importance of the camp’s alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, emphasizing skill development and value-added courses through NSS activities.
The camp will include a structured program, beginning with a lamp-lighting ceremony and introductions. Key figures will deliver speeches, including Regional Director of NSS, Jangjilong, and Shri Kausar J. Hilaly, who will address the impact of youth welfare initiatives in Assam. Lt. Gen. Kalita will provide insights on national service and leadership.
