Departmental Inquiry Ordered to Investigate Absenteeism
In a significant administrative move, the Assam government has suspended five Assam Civil Services (ACS) officers for allegedly failing to fulfill election-related duties assigned to them. The officers—Konkonyoti Saikia, Prismita Dihingia, Jintu Sharma, Saroj Kumar Deka, and Kabya Shree Dihingia—were transferred to specific roles related to election duties as per Election Commission requirements. However, reports indicate that the officers did not assume their assigned positions, leading to disciplinary action by the state government.
This transfer of ACS officers to election duty was part of the Assam government's routine efforts to assist the Election Commission in ensuring smooth electoral processes. Despite clear directives, the officers reportedly did not report to their posts, which prompted immediate government action in suspending them.
Alongside the suspensions, the Assam government has initiated a departmental inquiry to investigate the underlying reasons for the officers' absence. The inquiry aims to assess whether this lapse was due to negligence or if other factors played a role in their non-compliance.
