Militants Launch Separate Attacks on Villages in Manipur’s Imphal West District
Drone Suspected in Koutruk Attack Raises Fears of Aerial Threats
Imphal West, Manipur – 27 October 2024 – In a renewed wave of violence, two villages in Manipur’s Imphal West district were targeted on Saturday as suspected militants launched attacks involving heavy gunfire and explosives. The incidents unfolded in Koutruk Village, under Lamshang Police Station, and in Tronglaobi Village of Bishnupur district.

The first attack occurred around 7 p.m. in Koutruk Village, specifically in the Koutruk Ching Leikai and Awang Leikai areas, where militants reportedly used advanced weaponry, according to local sources. Nearby security forces, supported by village volunteers, quickly engaged, resulting in an intense exchange of gunfire. During the standoff, a drone, believed to be operated by militants from the Bethel area, was observed near the village, raising fears of potential aerial attacks.

This is the second attack in Koutruk this month, with a previous assault on October 16 involving gunfire and bombs, though no injuries were reported.

In a separate incident later that evening, around 9:15 p.m., militants launched an attack on Tronglaobi Village in Bishnupur district. Local volunteers from Moirang responded to gunfire originating from the Geljang and Molshang areas, resulting in another prolonged exchange.

The latest attacks have heightened tensions in the region, with security forces and villagers on high alert, as authorities investigate and take measures to protect affected communities.
