This evening around 7 PM, a devastating fire broke out at a residence near Manja LP School in Karbi Anglong, Assam, causing significant damage to both the house and the nearby school. Initial reports indicate that the fire may have been sparked by either firecrackers or a potential short circuit, although the exact cause is yet to be confirmed.
The fire quickly intensified, resulting in the explosion of an LPG cylinder within the residence. This explosion not only worsened the blaze but caused substantial damage to Manja LP School, with several classrooms and other parts of the school infrastructure sustaining severe harm.
Local police arrived at the scene within minutes, but residents expressed growing frustration as the fire brigade failed to arrive promptly—even after an hour of the incident. According to eyewitnesses, the fire brigade took over an hour to arrive, during which time locals made efforts to control the flames themselves. By the time the fire truck arrived, the fire was almost out, commented one resident, expressing frustration over the delayed response.Community members took it upon themselves to attempt controlling the flames while awaiting the fire service.
