Guwahati, October 24, 2024 – In a remarkable event filled with pride and patriotism, Gauhati University (GU) played host to the Indian Air Force's (IAF) Vayu Veer Vijeta Car Rally. The university's students and faculty extended a warm reception to the 32 air warriors and army officers who are part of this significant rally, driving from Siachen’s Thoise air base to their final destination, Tawang.
The grand event was inaugurated by Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta, Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University, who welcomed the brave officers alongside Air Commodore SS Prabhune, Air Officer Commanding (AOC) of Guwahati IAF Station, and Mr. Tarun Vijay, Chairman of the Uttarakhand War Memorial. In his speech, Prof. Mahanta emphasized the rally's role in inspiring the youth of Assam to consider a future in the Indian Air Force and other armed forces. He highlighted the historical and cultural significance of Assam, drawing references from Srimanta Sankardeva's works, which mention "Bharat" over 51 times, signifying deep-rooted patriotism in Assamese culture.
“The passage of this historic rally through Assam is a reflection of our state's enduring connection with the rest of the nation,” Prof. Mahanta said, urging the students to uphold the spirit of unity and dedication to the country.
Mr. Tarun Vijay, in his address, underscored the pivotal role of the youth in nation-building, emphasizing how a career in the Indian Air Force can transform young lives, instilling in them a sense of duty and patriotism. He lauded the air warriors for their bravery and commitment, which serve as a beacon of inspiration for the next generation.
Air Commodore SS Prabhune encouraged the students to consider a career in the IAF, describing it as not just a profession, but a way to lead a meaningful and purposeful life. Dr. Gargi Saikia Mahanta, who also attended the event, specifically welcomed the women officers of the IAF and the Army, hailing them as symbols of courage and inspiration for all.
The rally participants, comprising decorated officers and brave air warriors, interacted with students and National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers. They shared personal stories from their service in the IAF, offering insights into their life journeys and the sacrifices made in their careers. These interactions were aimed at motivating the youth to pursue excellence, patriotism, and dedication to the nation.
The rally will continue to Tezpur before reaching Tawang, where it will be flagged down by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on October 30 in the presence of Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein. The event at Gauhati University saw the enthusiastic participation of over 300 students, making it a momentous occasion for all present.
This historic rally not only celebrates the valour of the Indian Air Force but also strengthens the bond between the armed forces and the youth, fostering a sense of unity and patriotism across the region.
