Fresh Drone Attack Sparks Concern Amidst Ongoing Violence in Manipur
23-Year-Old Woman Injured in Latest Drone Attack in Senjam Chirang Maning

Manipur: In a new wave of violence amidst the tense situation in Manipur, two bombs allegedly dropped by drones exploded in the Senjam Chirang Maning area on September 2. The incident has heightened fears over the growing use of drones in violent attacks within the region.

Drone Attack Leaves Woman Injured

The explosions occurred around 6:20 pm, injuring 23-year-old Watham Sanatonbi Devi, a resident of Senjam Chirang Maning Leikai and the daughter of W. Gambhi. The attack has raised alarms about the security situation in Manipur and the potential for drones to be used in further violent acts. Authorities have launched an investigation to identify the perpetrators and evaluate the security implications of this concerning development.

Political Leaders Call for Urgent Action

Reacting to the incident, Manipur MLA Rajkumar Imo Singh expressed his deep concern in a letter to Home Minister Amit Shah. Singh condemned the escalating violence in the state, which he attributed to illegal armed militants and terrorists. He revealed that two people have been killed in recent attacks, including an innocent woman, and that several children and security personnel have been injured.

"The situation has become increasingly dangerous, especially after the recent Peace Rally held across the state," Singh wrote. He emphasized that the violence is not simply an ethnic conflict but acts of terror by armed groups targeting the state of Manipur.

Ongoing Conflict and Escalation of Violence

Singh highlighted that the conflict has persisted for over 15 months since May of the previous year, with little progress toward a peaceful resolution despite calls for political dialogue. "Certain groups continue to perpetuate violence, undermining efforts for peace," he stated. Singh also noted that the attacks have escalated from traditional forms of violence to more sophisticated methods, including drone strikes and shelling.

Urgent Need for Resolution

The recent drone attack and the broader escalation of violence in Manipur underscore the urgent need for a resolution to the ongoing conflict. As authorities investigate the latest incident, there are growing calls for increased security measures and renewed efforts to engage in dialogue to bring lasting peace to the region.

The use of drones in violent attacks marks a dangerous new development, raising serious concerns about the safety and security of civilians in Manipur. With the situation rapidly evolving, it is imperative for both local and national leaders to address the underlying issues driving the conflict and to work towards a peaceful and sustainable solution.
