Guwahati, September 16: Assam’s Director General of Police (DGP) G.P. Singh took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce a significant breakthrough in the investigation concerning the leaked Assam Direct Recruitment Examination (ADRE) question paper. The case involved the uploading of a used question paper on social media, sparking widespread concern about the integrity of the examination process.
The Assam Police investigation, spearheaded by Dhemaji district police, revealed that the used question paper originated from **Upendra National Academy, Simen Chapori**, in Dhemaji. The examination centre was under the jurisdiction of the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA). The investigation pinpointed Mangal Singh Basumutary, a photographer engaged by SEBA at the examination centre, as the main culprit.
It was discovered that Basumutary photographed the ADRE question paper after the examination concluded at 1:30 PM. His confession, following his detention, confirmed that the paper was photographed on his mobile device, which has since been seized by the police for further forensic analysis. The investigation also revealed that Basumutary circulated the images to several individuals, who are now being identified for possible criminal involvement.
Preliminary technical analysis suggests that the images were scanned and circulated at 2:17 PM on September 15, just hours after the exam ended. Assam Police are now focusing on uncovering the broader conspiracy, identifying the individuals involved, and determining whether the act was an attempt to discredit the examination process.
The authorities have assured the public that further investigations are ongoing, with efforts aimed at identifying all those involved in the leak. Legal actions are anticipated against those found to be complicit in the distribution and circulation of the exam paper.
This incident comes at a time when the Assam government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has been striving to ensure a fair and transparent recruitment process in the state. The Assam Police and SEBA have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining the sanctity of the examination process and bringing all culprits to justice.
