CM Himanta Biswa Sarma reveals new financial aid package for over 25,000 beneficiaries, along with major infrastructure projects and teacher recruitment drive
In a major push to support the youth and boost development in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a series of important cabinet decisions aimed at financial assistance and infrastructure growth. One of the key highlights was the approval of financial aid under the Chief Minister’s Arogya Assam Abhiyan (CMAAA) scheme, benefiting over 25,000 individuals.
Each of the 25,238 beneficiaries will receive a total of ₹2 lakh, divided into two components: ₹1 lakh as a subsidy and another ₹1 lakh as an interest-free loan for five years. The distribution of funds is scheduled to begin on November 3, marking a significant move towards empowering the youth financially. This initiative is part of the Assam government’s ongoing efforts to provide economic relief and opportunities to the state’s younger population.
In addition to the financial aid scheme, CM Sarma announced significant infrastructure projects aimed at improving the state’s urban landscape. The state cabinet approved ₹107 crore for constructing a new stadium in Kokrajhar and ₹111 crore for a new flyover in Guwahati, reflecting the government’s focus on modernizing infrastructure and improving connectivity in key areas.
Addressing the media after the cabinet meeting, Sarma also touched upon other key decisions, including the transfer of cases related to illegal trading scams to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), ensuring greater transparency and accountability in handling such issues.
The state government is also partnering with *Dassault Aviation* to develop skilled professionals in the aerospace sector, marking a significant step towards creating high-tech job opportunities in Assam.
Another major initiative includes a fresh recruitment drive aimed at regularizing 4,669 contractual teachers in Assam. CM Sarma noted that during the previous regime, teachers were appointed with low salaries and lacked job security. The new recruitment drive is expected to open new career opportunities in the education sector, while also enhancing job security for existing educators.
Sarma further announced that the state’s flagship Orunodoi 3.0 scheme will be launched on September 19, benefiting over 12.6 lakh new beneficiaries. The government also plans to distribute ration cards to an additional 17 lakh people as part of its commitment to supporting vulnerable sections of society.
These decisions underscore the Assam government’s focus on economic relief, infrastructural growth, and social welfare, with CM Sarma stressing that these initiatives will improve the quality of life for thousands across the state.
