ULFA-I Claims to Have Planted Bombs Across Assam to Disrupt Independence Day Celebrations
Insurgent Group ULFA-I Issues Press Release Claiming Explosives Placed in Upper and Lower Assam; Police Discover Suspicious Items in Multiple Locations
In a recent development, the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I), a banned insurgent group, has claimed responsibility for planting 19 bombs across various locations in Assam, aiming to disrupt the upcoming Independence Day celebrations. This alarming announcement was made through a press release issued by the group on Thursday.

The ULFA-I stated that explosives have been strategically placed in key areas across Upper Assam, including Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, and Guwahati, as well as in Lower Assam. The group claimed that their intention was to carry out bomb explosions today between 6 AM and 12 noon as a show of their strength and capability. However, the group reported that due to unforeseen technical issues, they decided to call off the operation.

In their statement, the insurgent group appealed for the recovery and safe deactivation of the explosives, emphasizing that the bombs were not meant to harm the general public but rather to make a statement.

Meanwhile, Assam police have confirmed the detection of several "suspicious items" at various locations, including Sivasagar and Nagaon. Security forces have been deployed to secure these areas and prevent any potential threats.

The press release issued by ULFA-I also listed specific locations where the bombs were allegedly planted, including the DTO Office, ONGC Number 5 Gate, Dibrugarh Lakuwa Tinali, and various other critical sites such as the ASTC offices in Lakhimpur and the SP Office in Laluk. Additionally, locations like Barghat Police Outpost, Nagaon Medical College, Guwahati Dispur Last Gate, and the Narengi Army Camp were named as potential targets.

However, the exact placement of bombs at three locations in Tinsukia district, one site in Dibrugarh, and other areas in Golaghat and Sorupathar could not be confirmed by the group. Security measures have been heightened across the state to ensure the safety of citizens as Independence Day approaches.

Authorities are working diligently to locate and neutralize any potential threats, and the public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement.

This disturbing claim by ULFA-I has raised concerns among residents and authorities alike, prompting a robust response from security forces to protect the public and ensure that the Independence Day celebrations proceed without incident.
