Karbi Anglong, August 13, 2024 — In a shocking incident, two men were brutally murdered by unidentified assailants in the early hours of Tuesday at Tokoubari, near the Karbi Anglong-Hojai border, under the jurisdiction of Bakulia police station. The victims have been identified as Bibhisan Bordoloi, 63, and Neel Bordoloi, 58, both residents of Tokoubari in Bakuliaghat.
According to reports, the two men had gone to a nearby paddy field for fishing at around 3 AM when they were attacked with sharp weapons. Their bodies were discovered later by locals near the roadside, who immediately informed the police.
Following the tragic incident, local leaders, including Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Executive Member Madhuram Lekhte and MLA Bidyasing Engleng, visited the scene. They met with the victims' families and assured them of support and justice. The villagers, distressed by the incident, have also demanded swift justice for the deceased.
Karbi Anglong Superintendent of Police (SP) Sanjib Kumar Saikia arrived at the crime scene to oversee the investigation. He confirmed that the victims were primarily dependent on fishing to support their families. “The men left their homes around 3 AM for fishing, and we were informed about the incident around 5 AM,” SP Saikia stated. He also mentioned that a case has been registered and a thorough investigation is underway to identify and apprehend the culprits. The SP assured that coordination with the Hojai police is ongoing to ensure a swift resolution to the case.
The brutal killings have sent shockwaves through the community, and the police are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice.
