India's Cost-Effective Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) Completes Development, Ready for Commercial Missions
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has achieved another significant milestone with the successful completion of the SSLV-D3/EOS-08 mission. In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), ISRO confirmed that the third developmental flight of the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) successfully placed the EOS-08 satellite into its intended orbit.
This success marks the culmination of ISRO's SSLV Development Project, signifying a major advancement in India's space capabilities. The SSLV, designed to be a cost-effective and agile launch vehicle, is now ready for commercial production. The responsibility for its manufacturing will be handed over to the Indian industry and NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), paving the way for future commercial space missions.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also lauded this achievement, expressing his congratulations to ISRO, the Indian space industry, and the private sector involved. In a tweet, he emphasized the importance of the SSLV as a new addition to India's fleet of launch vehicles. He noted that this cost-effective solution will not only play a crucial role in upcoming space missions but also encourage the participation of private industry in India's growing space sector.
The successful launch of SSLV-D3 highlights ISRO's ongoing commitment to innovation and collaboration with the private sector, ensuring that India remains at the forefront of space exploration and technology.
