Tuiá¹haphai, August 3, 2024 — The Hmar Inpui, General Headquarters, has strongly rejected the recent peace initiatives held on August 1, 2024, at the CRPF Group Centre in Dayapur, Cachar Assam, and the earlier initiative on July 1, 2024, in Silchar. In a press release dated July 3, 2024, the Hmar Inpui condemned these talks, citing a lack of prior, informed consent from their organization.
Despite their clear stance, members of the Hmar Inpui/Jiribam Region, the Hmar National Union (HNU), and various individuals have engaged with what the Hmar Inpui describes as a "divisive and communal government" led by Chief Minister Biren Singh. As a result, the Hmar Inpui declared the August 1, 2024, initiatives null and void and has dissolved the Hmar Inpui Jiribam Region and all affiliated organizations, including the HYA, HSA, HNU, and HWA, under Jiribam jurisdiction.
The Hmar Inpui has warned individuals involved in these events to cease their actions immediately, stating they do not represent the Hmar community. Any further efforts by these organizations or individuals will be undertaken at their own risk.
The Hmar community in Jiribam has long suffered under what they describe as a "communally majoritarian government" that has seized their land and negated their customary rights. The transition of Jiribam from a sub-division of Imphal East to a full-fledged district has exacerbated their plight, alienating them from their land, history, and rights.
Resolute in their cause, the Hmar Inpui is determined to unite and strengthen the movement for total separation of the Zohnathlak peoples from Manipur. They reject any attempts by the Biren Singh-led government to divide their community and undermine their struggle for justice.
The Hmar Inpui insists that any peace initiative must have the approval and informed consent of their General Headquarters. They advocate for a peace founded on respect and dignity for every individual, rejecting the divisive politics of the current administration. The Hmar Inpui remains steadfast in their commitment to achieving just peace and empowering the rights of the Zohnathlak peoples, recognized as Scheduled Tribes in the Indian Constitution.
