In a disturbing incident that has rocked the small town of Diphu in Assam, a 10-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a visiting priest on August 22. The case came to light the following day when the young victim courageously shared her traumatic experience with her family.
According to local police, the accused, identified as Khongsing Ronghang, approximately 40 years old, had traveled from Hamren to Diphu to conduct a religious ceremony for a family in the Birla area. After completing the puja late in the evening, Ronghang was offered accommodation at the family's residence for the night.
It was during the early hours of August 23 that the heinous act allegedly took place. The priest left the house in the morning, and the young girl, showing remarkable resilience, attended school as usual. However, upon returning home in the evening, she revealed the horrifying ordeal to her family.
Enraged by the betrayal of trust and the grave nature of the crime, family members launched a search for Ronghang. Upon locating him within Diphu, they confronted the accused, resulting in a physical altercation. Subsequently, Ronghang was handed over to the Diphu police.
A police source, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated, "The accused is currently receiving medical treatment at Diphu Medical College & Hospital due to injuries sustained during the confrontation with the family." The source added that an FIR has been filed at the Diphu police station, and a thorough investigation is underway.
