Minister Tours Flood-Affected Areas and Inspects Embankments
Dibrugarh, India – Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, urgently addressed the flood crisis in the greater Dibrugarh region, overseeing the government’s relief operations for affected residents.

Sonowal toured several flood-stricken areas in Dibrugarh city, including Graham Bazaar, AT Road, HS Road, RKB Path, Mancotta Road, Thana Chariali, and Jhalukpara. Additionally, he inspected embankment sites at Tengakhat and Hatibandha to assess the damage and the effectiveness of the ongoing relief efforts.

During his visit to the relief camp at Tengakhat on June 3, Sonowal evaluated the living conditions of flood victims and discussed the material losses with affected individuals. He instructed the District Commissioner to maintain hygiene in the shelter camps to prevent disease outbreaks and ensure medical care for the displaced, with special attention to the elderly, women, and children.

Expedited Relief Measures

Sonowal directed officials to accelerate all necessary relief measures and enhance the intensity of rescue operations. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Indian Army, and Indian Air Force have collaborated with the district administration to conduct extensive relief and rescue missions across the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha constituency.

Addressing the situation, Sonowal stated, “The worsening flood situation in Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, and other parts of Assam is a matter of grave concern. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is deeply concerned and is receiving regular updates. Both central and state governments are working together to combat this natural disaster and provide necessary relief to those affected. Financial aid will be provided for material losses, and urgent measures will be taken to repair and build embankments.”

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal was accompanied by several key officials, including Dibrugarh MLA Prashanta Phukan, Assam Minister and Tinsukia MLA Teras Gowala, Assam Tourism Development Corporation Chairman Rituparna Baruah, District Commissioner Bikram Kairi, Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation Mayor Saikat Patra, Deputy Mayor and District President of Dibrugarh BJP Ujjwal Kashyap, among others.
