Three Militants Killed in Assam's Cachar District Encounter
Security Forces Engage in Intense Gunfight on Assam-Mizoram Border
Cachar, Assam – July 17, 2024: In a late-night encounter on July 16, security forces neutralized three militants in Assam's Cachar district. The confrontation occurred in the Bhuban Hills, located near the Assam-Mizoram border.

According to reports, the firefight erupted when militants opened fire on a police team led by Superintendent of Police Nomal Mahatta. Earlier in the day, three militants had been arrested with weapons in Dhalai Ganga Nagar, Cachar. The police, along with the arrested individuals, proceeded to the Bhuban Hills, where hidden militants launched an attack.

The ensuing exchange of gunfire lasted for about an hour, culminating in the deaths of three militants—two from Cachar and one from Manipur. Three police officers sustained injuries during the encounter, and the police vehicle was damaged.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma acknowledged the operation in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating, "In an early morning operation, @cacharpolice killed 3 Hmar militants from Assam and neighbouring Manipur. Police also recovered 2 AK rifles, 1 other rifle, and 1 pistol."

The recovery of these weapons underscores the seriousness of the threat posed by the militants. The successful operation reflects the commitment and bravery of the security forces in maintaining peace and security in the region.

As the situation remains tense, further operations may be anticipated to ensure the complete dismantling of militant networks in the area. Authorities continue to urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
