Guwahati, India - In a resounding tribute to the Honourable Prime Minister's "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" campaign, the National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell of Gauhati University organized a significant tree plantation event at the Dharapur Brahmaputra riverside. Launched on World Environment Day, this campaign aims to inspire individuals across India and around the globe to plant trees as a tribute to our mother Earth.
Sri Ramendra Narayan Kalita, the esteemed MLA of the West Guwahati Constituency, inaugurated the event by planting a Silikha tree sapling. In his address, Mr. Kalita lauded the efforts of the NSS Cell and its volunteers, emphasizing the importance of such initiatives in combating soil erosion and enhancing environmental sustainability. He encouraged everyone present to contribute to the cause by planting more trees.
Dr. Ranjan Kr. Kakati, Director of Students' Welfare at Gauhati University, also participated by planting a sapling. Dr. Kakati highlighted the visionary leadership of the Honourable Prime Minister in launching this campaign and urged the community to ensure its success for the betterment of the environment.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from NSS Programme Officers and volunteers, who collectively planted numerous tree saplings along the riverside. This noble initiative by the Gauhati University NSS Cell not only aims to curb soil erosion but also contributes to the larger goal of environmental conservation.
