CRPF's Expanding Role in Maintaining Order in Manipur
Union Home Secretary Highlights CRPF's Crucial Contributions
New Delhi, July 28, 2024 — Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla highlighted the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)'s crucial role in restoring peace and stability in Manipur, a state troubled by ethnic violence for over a year. Speaking at the CRPF's 86th Raising Day celebrations, Bhalla praised the force for its effectiveness in curbing violence and protecting displaced communities.

"The CRPF's presence in Manipur is becoming increasingly essential. They have played a significant role in halting violence and ensuring the safety of shelter homes for displaced individuals," Bhalla remarked.

Since May 3, 2023, Manipur has been engulfed in ethnic clashes between the tribal Kuki-Zo and Meitei communities, resulting in over 221 deaths and the displacement of more than 60,000 people. To manage the situation, around 36,000 personnel from the Indian Army and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have been deployed in the state.

Bhalla also pointed to the upcoming integration of "experienced and disciplined" Agniveers into the CAPFs, with a 10% reservation in vacancies for these recruits, as a key future development.

"Only a few districts remain affected by Naxalism. With sustained support, we are confident that Naxalism will be eradicated from India," Bhalla added, emphasizing the ongoing efforts to eliminate the insurgency.

The CRPF continues to play a pivotal role in maintaining law and order, showcasing their commitment and dedication to national security and peace.
