Guwahati, July 15, 2024 – In a significant update to the Assam Direct Recruitment Examination (ADRE) for Grades III and IV, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced the introduction of negative marking for incorrect answers. This change is aimed at enhancing the quality of the selection process amid a record surge in applications.
The number of applicants for this year’s examination has reached an unprecedented 11 lakh, competing for approximately 13,000 vacancies. This spike in applications is the highest ever recorded in the state, reflecting a growing interest in government jobs.
Chief Minister Sarma attributed the surge to several factors, including the removal of form fill-up charges, which made the application process more accessible, and the transparency in the conduct of previous examinations. These measures have significantly boosted candidate confidence and participation.
Acknowledging the challenges posed by the massive number of candidates, the Chief Minister assured that the government is taking necessary steps to manage the logistics efficiently. "Conducting an examination of this scale requires meticulous planning and coordination. We are committed to ensuring a smooth and fair process for all applicants," he said.
The introduction of negative marking is expected to make candidates more cautious and better prepared, thereby improving the overall standard of the recruitment process. This measure aims to discourage guesswork and ensure that only the most deserving candidates are selected for the limited positions available.
As the ADRE approaches, candidates are urged to stay updated with the latest information and prepare diligently to meet the new examination standards. The state government’s efforts to enhance the recruitment process reflect its commitment to maintaining high standards of transparency and fairness in public service hiring.
