Silchar, July 24, 2024 – In a significant move to promote linguistic diversity and cultural heritage, the Assam Government has officially recognized the Meetei Mayek (ꯃꯤꯇꯩ ꯃꯌꯦꯛ) script for the Manipuri language in Manipuri medium schools across the state. The announcement was made by Ranoj Pegu, Assam's Education Minister, through a post on social media platform X.

Milestone for Manipuri Language Education

Education Minister Ranoj Pegu stated, "Assam Government has officially recognized the Meetei Mayek script for the Manipuri language in Manipuri medium schools in Assam. Today, a delegation from the Manipuri Language Protection Committee met me in Silchar to discuss the progress of textbook preparation in the Meetei Mayek script. We aim to introduce these textbooks starting from the next academic session."

The meeting in Silchar highlighted the collaborative efforts between the Assam Government and the Manipuri Language Protection Committee to ensure the effective implementation of the Meetei Mayek script in educational institutions.
