Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Expands Benefits to Non-Teaching Staff; Combined Civil Service Exam to Include Assamese Language for First Time
Assam, India - In a significant policy announcement, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed that Grade III and Grade IV jobholders in the state will soon enjoy the facility of mutual transfer, a benefit previously available only to teachers. Addressing a press conference, the Chief Minister emphasized that this move aims to improve job satisfaction and convenience for thousands of employees across Assam.
“During my tenure as the Education Minister of Assam, I established a policy allowing mutual transfers between teachers in different parts of the state. This initiative enabled many teachers to work in their home districts,” said CM Sarma. He highlighted the success of this policy and expressed confidence that extending similar benefits to Grade III and Grade IV jobholders would have a positive impact.
The Chief Minister also noted the Assam Government's efforts in providing employment, stating, "Since last year, we have given more than 43,000 Grade III and Grade IV jobs. We are now considering a facility for these jobholders to change their workplace to their hometown through mutual understanding, just like the teachers."
This new policy is expected to help a large number of Grade III and Grade IV employees by allowing them to work closer to their families and communities, thereby enhancing their overall well-being and job performance.
In another landmark announcement, CM Sarma stated that for the first time, all questions in the Combined Civil Service Examination (Main) will be available in Assamese in addition to English. This change, starting with the exam on July 26, aims to make the examination more accessible to Assamese-speaking candidates.
"The Combined Civil Service Examination (Main) starts tomorrow. For the first time in history, all questions will be in Assamese in addition to English, as per the Government of Assam's instructions. Kudos to the Assam Public Service Commission for this historic move," the Chief Minister wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
This decision by the Assam Public Service Commission is seen as a historic step towards promoting linguistic inclusivity and improving opportunities for local candidates in the region.
