Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh – In a historic moment, Dasanglu Pul was sworn in as a minister in the Arunachal Pradesh government on June 13, marking the first time in two decades that a woman has held a cabinet position in the state.
The oath ceremony took place at the Dorjee Khandu Convention Hall in Itanagar, graced by several high-profile dignitaries, including Union Ministers Amit Shah, J.P. Nadda, and Kiren Rijiju, as well as the Chief Ministers of Sikkim and Assam.
Pul, 46, represents the Hayuliang assembly constituency in Anjaw district. Her political journey began in 2016, when she won a by-election following the death of her husband, former Chief Minister Kalikho Pul. Since then, she has secured re-election twice, in 2019 and 2024, establishing herself as a prominent female leader in Arunachal Pradesh.
Before her cabinet induction, Pul served as an adviser to the Women and Child Development department. Her new role is celebrated as a significant advancement for women's representation in the state’s political landscape.
Arunachal Pradesh currently has four women MLAs: Dasanglu Pul (Hayuliang), Tsering Lhamu (Lumla), Chakat Aboh (Khonsa West), and Nyabi Jini Dirchi (Basar). Pul's appointment underscores the progress towards more inclusive governance in the region.
