BSF Captures Bangladeshi Man Attempting Illegal Border Crossing in Tripura

Dharmanagar, Tripura JUNE 7 2024– A Bangladeshi national was apprehended while trying to illegally cross the border in Baruakandi village, located in Tripura North. The Border Security Force (BSF) reported the arrest.

The individual, identified as Azim Uddin, originally hails from Sylhet, Bangladesh. Azim Uddin had traveled to France via Dubai on a tourist visa in 2018. He lived in France from 2018 to 2024, working in a restaurant and eventually becoming a French citizen.

Despite holding a French passport, Azim Uddin lacked the proper documentation to travel legally from India to Bangladesh. As a result, he attempted to cross the border illegally at Gaurakandi, near Dharmanagar. He paid a broker, Islam Uddin, fifteen hundred rupees to facilitate his crossing. However, Azim Uddin was intercepted by the 139th Battalion of the BSF during the attempt.

Both Azim Uddin and the broker, Islam Uddin, were handed over to the Dharmanagar police by the BSF. The police have registered cases against the two under relevant legal sections. An investigation is underway, and the accused are scheduled to appear in court tomorrow.

This incident underscores the ongoing challenges and dangers of illegal border crossings in the region. The BSF remains vigilant to prevent such activities and ensure the security of the border areas.
