Assam Polls Split into Three Phases: Dates Announced by Election Commission
16 March, 24: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has just announced the dates for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, which are like India's big vote for the national government. The voting in Assam state will happen in three parts on April 19, April 26, and May 7.
They've set up a whopping 10.5 lakh voting booths all over the country to make sure everyone can vote easily, including people who need special help.
This time, they're focusing a lot on getting young people involved. There are about 1.8 crore first-time voters and almost 20 crore young people aged 20 to 29 who can vote. They're even teaming up with famous people like Sachin Tendulkar and Rajkummar Rao to encourage young people to vote. They're also using social media and radio to spread the word.
And it's not just about the young folks—more and more women are also getting ready to vote. Over 85 lakh women who've never voted before are gearing up to have their say in this election.
