Congress Leader Jairam Ramesh and CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Clash Over Credit for Semiconductor Project
Himanta Biswa Sarma Disputes TCS's Role, Credits PM Modi for Semiconductor Revolution
2 March, 24: In a recent social media exchange, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh and Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma engaged in a debate over the credit for bringing a semiconductor investment to Assam.

Jairam Ramesh's post highlighted a meeting between Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) CEO S. Ramadorai and former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi in 2007, during which TCS's presence in Assam was initiated. Ramesh underscored the need for the current CM, Himanta Biswa Sarma, to acknowledge past contributions despite political differences.

Responding to Ramesh's post, Himanta Biswa Sarma questioned the relevance of TCS in the semiconductor context in 2007, emphasizing that semiconductor assembly or fabrication plants were not prevalent in India at that time. Sarma urged Ramesh to credit Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ushering in a semiconductor revolution in India.

The exchange between the two leaders underscores the political discourse surrounding development initiatives in Assam and highlights the differing perspectives on the role of past and present leadership in driving economic growth and investment in the state.
