Guwahati, Assam 1 February 2024: Assam Tourism Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah has announced a significant step towards regulating tourism in the state with the introduction of the Assam Tourism Bill 2024. The minister emphasized that the absence of a dedicated act has hindered effective tourism management in the region.
Baruah revealed that the state government recognizes the need for structured regulations to address tourism-related challenges. He stated, "We could not regulate tourism in the state because we did not have an act. In the upcoming Vidhan Sabha budget session, this act will be implemented."
The new legislation is expected to provide a framework for managing and promoting tourism in Assam, offering a legal foundation for addressing issues such as environmental conservation, visitor safety, and sustainable development.
This move is anticipated to enhance the overall tourism experience in Assam, attracting more visitors while ensuring responsible and sustainable practices. With the upcoming implementation of the Assam Tourism Bill 2024, the state aims to create a thriving tourism sector that benefits both locals and tourists alike.
