Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu Clarifies Stand on College Amalgamation

27 February, 24: Education Minister of Assam, Ranoj Pegu, recently addressed concerns regarding the purported amalgamation of colleges with low enrolment in the state. Taking to social media, Pegu clarified that there are currently no plans to merge colleges due to low enrolment numbers. Instead, the focus is on initiatives to boost enrolment rates in colleges facing this challenge.

Pegu emphasized the importance of colleges attracting more students to ensure their sustainability. Principals have been urged to implement strategies aimed at increasing student numbers within their respective institutions. However, Pegu reiterated that if despite these efforts a college fails to attract students, the department will take appropriate action.

Furthermore, Pegu highlighted the role of college principals in ensuring the delivery of quality education. By prioritizing quality, colleges can enhance their appeal to both students and parents, thereby contributing to increased enrolment.

The statement from Minister Pegu seeks to provide clarity and assurance to stakeholders within the education sector in Assam. By addressing concerns surrounding college amalgamation and outlining the government's approach to addressing low enrolment, Pegu aims to foster confidence and collaboration among educational institutions and administrators.

Through proactive measures and a commitment to enhancing educational opportunities, the Assam government under Minister Pegu's leadership aims to strengthen the state's education system and ensure access to quality education for all.
