Changes in Teacher Eligibility Criteria Following Supreme Court Order
Guwahati, Assam - 2 January, 2024: The Directorate of Elementary Education, Assam, has issued a crucial notice regarding the recruitment of teachers in LP and UP Schools, emphasizing alterations in eligibility criteria based on a recent Supreme Court order.
In compliance with the Hon'ble Supreme Court's directive dated 28/11/2023, as outlined in Civil Appeals arising out of SLP(C) Nos. 23583-84/2022 and 23943/2022, Advertisement-A and Advertisement-B have been published vide No. 383723/117 and 383723/124 on 26/12/2023.
The significant amendment pertains to the qualification of a 18-month Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) acquired from the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). According to the Supreme Court ruling, this qualification is no longer deemed valid for fresh recruitment to the post of teachers.
The approval for this modification has been granted by the Government in the Department of School Education, as documented in eFile No. 383723 dated 01.01.2023.
Director of Elementary Education, Assam, Suranjana Senapati, affirms that all other terms and conditions specified in the aforementioned Advertisements remain unchanged.
