India, 2 January, 24: In a recent development, the Border Security Force (BSF) has transferred custody of a Bangladeshi national to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) after the individual inadvertently crossed the international border.
The incident took place in the South Garo Hills area on June 10, as reported by BSF Meghalaya. The official Twitter handle of BSF Meghalaya stated, "As a goodwill gesture, 43 Battalion BSF Meghalaya handed over a Bangladeshi national of unsound mind to Border Guard Bangladesh, who inadvertently crossed the international boundary and entered Indian territory in the area of South Garo Hills on June 10, 2023.”
This follows a similar occurrence on May 13, when BSF Meghalaya detained two Bangladeshi nationals entering India illegally, allegedly with intentions related to robbery.
The BGB, Bangladesh's paramilitary force, plays a vital role in securing the country's borders, stretching over 4,427 kilometers alongside India and Myanmar. On the other hand, the BSF, India's border-guarding organization, is responsible for securing borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh.
The peaceful exchange between the BSF and BGB demonstrates the established protocols and understanding between the two forces for handling such border-related incidents.
