Assam Government Reserves 3% Quota for Tea Tribes and Adivasi Communities in Class-III and Class-IV Posts
Tea Tribes and Adivasi Communities to Benefit from Enhanced Opportunities
Guwahati, January 2, 2024: In a commendable move towards fostering inclusivity, the Government of Assam, through the Office of the Director of Elementary Education, has announced a 3% reservation for Tea Tribes and Adivasi Communities in Class-III and Class-IV posts. This decision is a significant stride towards ensuring adequate representation of these communities within the existing 27% quota for OBC/MOBC (Other Backward Classes/MOBC) communities in state government jobs.*

The initiative stems from the Government Order vide No. ABP.98/2023/11, dated October 6, 2023, specifically addressing the need for enhanced representation in various government roles. By implementing this reservation, the Assam government seeks to strengthen the cadre with a focus on historically marginalized communities.

The reservation comes into immediate effect and will be applicable to all recruitment processes for teaching and non-teaching staff under the Directorate of Elementary Education. This proactive step aligns with the government's commitment to promoting diversity and inclusivity in the state's workforce.

The move is not only a testament to the state's commitment to social equity but also a recognition of the historical underrepresentation of Tea Tribes and Adivasi Communities in government employment. By providing this reservation, Assam aims to ensure fair opportunities and empower communities that have been traditionally marginalized.

In a statement, the Director of Elementary Education, Assam, highlighted the importance of such inclusive policies for the overall development of society. The decision is expected to have a positive impact on the representation of Tea Tribes and Adivasi Communities in various government sectors, setting the stage for broader inclusivity measures in the future. This move is a stride towards creating a more equitable and diverse landscape in Assam's public employment sector.
