Delhi, 3 December, 2023: In a distressing incident, four individuals hailing from Manipur, including two women, were allegedly subjected to a brutal assault in southeast Delhi's Sunlight Colony. The victims were targeted after being approached by unidentified individuals who asked for assistance in booking an Uber ride to Munirka, claiming their phone had died.

DCP (Southeast) Rajesh Deo revealed that the police responded to a PCR call around 2:30 am on Saturday, reporting a dispute in Kilokari village of Sunlight Colony. The initial investigation indicated a physical altercation, resulting in one person being hospitalized after being shifted by a PCR van.

The complainant, a man, detailed the harrowing incident, stating that he, along with his sister and wife, was on the way to drop a friend home around 11:30 pm on November 30. The complainant sustained injuries, including abrasions on his knees, redness and swelling in the eyes, and swelling on the left side of the forehead.

As per the police account, three strangers, including a woman, approached them and requested help in booking an Uber ride to Munirka due to a dead phone battery. However, the situation escalated when one of the strangers began verbally abusing and insulting them. The assailants then physically assaulted the wife and sister of the complainant.

DCP Rajesh Deo stated that the attackers made a call, summoning more individuals who surrounded the Manipuri residents within minutes, intensifying the assault. CCTV footage captured a chaotic scene in a narrow street, depicting a group of people punching and kicking the victims, while one of them screamed for help.

In response to this heinous act, the police have registered an FIR against the unidentified assailants, invoking relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code pertaining to sexual assault. The incident highlights the urgent need for increased awareness and vigilance to ensure the safety and well-being of residents, particularly those from Northeastern states, in the national capital.
