Younger Brother of NSCN(KYA) Chairman Among Those Captured in Dibrugarh and Tinsukia Districts
Dibrugarh, Assam - 1 December, 23: In a significant stride towards curbing militancy in the region, a joint operation conducted by the Eastern Command Intelligence Battalion, Assam Police, and the 18 Garhwal Rifles resulted in the apprehension of key members associated with NSCN(KYA) and PREPAK. The operation, carried out in Assam's Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts, led to the capture of Marmet Ngaimong, the younger brother of NSCN (KYA) chairman Yung Aung, and two PREPAK cadres.
The Eastern Command Intelligence Battalion, in collaboration with Assam Police and 18 Garhwal Rifles, initially detained a PREPAK cadre near Dibrugarh airport. Subsequent questioning of the apprehended cadre revealed crucial information about another PREPAK member planning to cross into Myanmar accompanied by an NSCN(KYA) cadre. Following this lead, security forces successfully apprehended the duo in the Jagun area of Tinsukia. The planned route for their journey was reported to be through Digboi, Jagun, and Jairampur with the intention of reaching Myanmar.
The NSCN(KYA) cadre, identified as Marmet Ngaimong, was reportedly coordinating activities under the directives of his elder brother, Yung Aung, who is currently based in Myanmar. Security forces believe that Ngaimong played a significant role in executing plans on behalf of the NSCN(KYA) chairman.
Simultaneously, the two captured PREPAK cadres have been identified as Nongthombam Kabichandram Singh and Pebam Akash Singh, originating from Imphal East and Imphal West districts in Manipur, respectively.
This successful joint operation signifies a major victory for security forces in their ongoing efforts to counteract militant activities in the region.
