Defence of Karbi Liberation Army (DKLA) Chairman's Involvement Unveiled
DIPHU, 22 December — In a significant breakthrough, Diphu police successfully apprehended two brothers involved in an extortion racket, demanding a hefty sum of Rs. 1 crore from a local businessman. The duo, identified as Borsing Tokbi, self-styled Chairman of the Defence of Karbi Liberation Army (DKLA), and his younger brother Thomas Tokbi, were taken into custody during a well-coordinated operation.
The arrest followed a complaint filed by Risim Kathar, Chairman of DKLA, who reported the extortion attempt in the name of their self-styled extremist group. The businessman targeted by the criminals operates in Diphu.
Acting swiftly, the police executed a search operation on Thursday evening in the vicinity of 5kilo, Lumding road. The operation led to the apprehension of the two extortionists, along with the recovery of four mobile phones, including wanted SIM cards, and one motorcycle. The seizure aligns with the items specified in the official seizure list.
Risim Kathar, also known as Borsing Tokbi, aged 30, and his younger brother Thomas Tokbi, 22, were arrested on the spot. Both suspects confessed to their involvement in the crime. They are slated to be presented before the Diphu judicial court, as confirmed by a police official.
The seized items, including the mobile phones and the motorcycle, were discovered in the possession of the arrested individuals, who were intercepted while en route to collect the extortion money. This successful operation underscores the commitment of the Diphu police in swiftly addressing criminal activities and ensuring the safety of the local community.
