CBI Director Praveen Sood's Review Sparks Momentum in Manipur Investigations
CBI Chief Praveen Sood Reviews Manipur Violence Cases in Guwahati.
Guwahati, 18 December 2023: On Monday, CBI Chief Praveen Sood arrived at Guwahati's LGBI Airport, heading to the Deputy Inspector General of Police's office in Gorchuk. Sources indicate he will assess the progress of Special Investigation Teams (SITs) led by DIG-rank officers investigating six Manipur violence cases.

Reliable information suggests Sood may also oversee developments involving nine individuals charged in connection with the killing of a Naga woman during ethnic violence in Manipur. This action aligns with the Supreme Court's directives.

In September, a special CBI team, led by Sood, hastened the inquiry into the alleged murder of two Meitei students in Manipur. Tensions escalated after conflicts on September 26, prompting protests demanding justice for the kidnapped and murdered students.

Following the review in Guwahati, CBI Director Praveen Sood is expected to travel to Manipur with a specialist team before returning to Guwahati later today, concluding the visit with an evening return to New Delhi.

Earlier, Assam police designated two top officials to assist Manipur's government in investigating the violence cases. Superintendent of Police, Lakhimpur, IPS Anand Mishra, and Superintendent of Police (Border-II) APS Randeep Kumar Baruah have been tasked with leading the SITs for Manipur incidents, according to a governor's notification.
