In a historic development for the Assam Police, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on December 8 that an unprecedented 28,813 constables have been promoted to the next rank of L/Nk in a single day. This remarkable achievement encompasses 21,275 individuals from the Armed Branch and 7,538 from the Unarmed Branch.

The significance of these promotions extends beyond the numerical count, as they are expected to serve as a powerful motivator for our dedicated police force. Chief Minister Sarma expressed confidence that this collective step up will inspire the personnel to redouble their efforts in ensuring a safer and crime-free Assam.

Taking to Twitter, the Director General of Police (DGP) of Assam, also on December 8, hailed this momentous occasion in the annals of @assampolice. Expressing gratitude to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the DGP acknowledged the approval of landmark minimum assured three promotions to all ranks, a move that received widespread appreciation from the Assam Police family.

The Chief Minister's commitment to law and order in Assam was further emphasized on December 5 when he shared insights from the latest National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report. According to the report, overall crime in Assam has witnessed a notable reduction of nearly 50% since 2021. CM Sarma attributed this positive trend to transparent recruitment practices and strategic investments in SMART policing.

"The latest NCRB report suggests overall crime in Assam has reduced by nearly 50% since 2021. Our efforts in transparent recruitment and investments in SMART policing are bearing fruit. We will not rest until Assam is crime-free," tweeted Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on December 5.

As Assam continues its relentless pursuit of a safer state, these progressive measures underscore the commitment of the government and the police force to creating an environment where citizens can thrive without the shadow of crime.
