Prime Minister Modi to Lead BJP Campaign in Mizoram Ahead of Assembly Polls
Top BJP Leaders, Including J P Nadda, Rajnath Singh, and Nitin Gadkari, Unite for Mizoram's Electoral Battle
Mamit, Mizoram - October 22, 2023: In a strategic move to bolster the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) prospects in the upcoming Mizoram assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to grace Mizoram's Mamit town with his presence on October 30. This significant announcement was confirmed by BJP's Mizoram unit president, Vanlalhmuaka, during a press statement on Saturday.

The Mizoram campaign is poised to witness the grand participation of several high-profile BJP leaders. Alongside Prime Minister Modi, the campaign trail will be graced by BJP president J P Nadda, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. They will join forces to rally behind the party's candidates in anticipation of the polls scheduled for November 7.

Union Minister Nityanand Rai and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma are also gearing up to intensify their campaign efforts. Rai will focus his efforts in Silsury, while Sarma will address the citizens of Mamit and Hachhek. The specific campaign dates for their appearances are currently being fine-tuned.

Furthermore, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, who holds the critical role of BJP's election in-charge for Mizoram, has already established his presence in the state, spearheading the party's preparations for the impending elections.

The BJP has taken a strategic approach in fielding candidates, especially targeting linguistic minority areas, where the Bru and Chakma communities hold significant influence. The party's contest extends to two out of the 11 assembly constituencies within the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) area, which is predominantly populated by Mizos.

A list of 40-star campaigners has been unveiled by the BJP for the Mizoram assembly polls, underscoring the party's commitment to making a significant impact in the state. Notably, the potential visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah remains uncertain, as BJP leaders continue to finalize campaign schedules.

Mizoram is gearing up for elections to the 40-member state assembly, scheduled for a single-phase polling day on November 7, with the counting of votes set for December 3. A total of 174 candidates, including 40 each from the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF), the main opposition Zoram People's Movement (ZPM), and the Congress, have submitted their nominations.

The ongoing scrutiny of nomination papers is underway, with the deadline for withdrawal of candidature set for October 23. As the political landscape in Mizoram unfolds, the state braces for a dynamic and closely-watched electoral battle.
