Mobile Users Receive Emergency Alert During Test by Department of Telecommunications

New Delhi - 30 October 2023: Mobile users across the nation were taken by surprise as they received an unexpected emergency alert, sparking a flurry of curiosity and even some alarm. However, this alert was not a cause for immediate concern but part of a systematic test initiated by the Department of Telecommunications in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority. This joint effort aims to improve emergency communication capabilities during times of disaster, prioritizing the safety and well-being of the Indian population.

The Department of Telecommunications, in conjunction with the National Disaster Management Authority, is currently conducting a Cell Broadcast Alert System test. This technology has been developed to enable the dissemination of critical and time-sensitive messages related to disaster management to all mobile devices within a specified geographical area. Importantly, these alerts are delivered to both residents and visitors, ensuring that vital emergency information reaches as many individuals as possible in a prompt manner.
